How to Create a Click-Worthy Newsletter

Newsletters are important. A click-worthy newsletter is golden. An email newsletter is a direct way to communicate with your customers and audience, whether you are a shop, brand or blogger. We’ve being emailing newsletters for several years now, so we’re sharing our 5 top tips on how to create a click-worthy newsletter.

Tip 01

Build a List

This may sound obvious but it’s where every good email newsletter starts. You need to be reaching “your” customer. A customer that is engaged with your brand or is interested in knowing more. A good quality audience means people are actually going to open and read your newsletter. Build a list by inviting people to sign-up in store, via pop-up on a website and on social media. A website pop-up box often offers a first time discount to encourage people to sign up. Once you have an email list you can market to them directly, with confidence, knowing that they want to hear from you. No more guessing if they are going to see your news and updates on social media or if they happen on your website.

Tip 02

Schedule

So you have an engaged audience in your email list, the next step is setting a schedule. That could be sending a daily, weekly or monthly newsletter and consistently keeping to that schedule. We all receive daily newsletters but that is a lot of news-worthy content to create so most people settle on a weekly or monthly schedule. Pick a day and time by experimenting and using the scheduler interface that providers offer for maximum engagement. After you set a schedule creating a calendar will streamline the process. Create a calendar to organize what to share in each newsletter in the coming months.

Tip 03

Content

Content is king. Think about what your customers want to hear from you? This could be a new product, service, an event, information or a discount. For example each newsletter can firstly include some news about a new product, event or sale. Then include some behind the scenes about a maker or process of a best-selling product or service. Also people love to read customer testimonials. Share a photo of a customer with your product. Lists and roundups are easily digestible and very clickable so find a way to include this format in your email marketing. More ideas are sharing links to articles relevant to your business or product. A well-balanced newsletter engages an audience and translates to clicks.

Tip 04

Clever Copy

Intriguing copy makes people click. So clever, funny or cryptic headlines make people click to find out more. If you’re not a copy writer this maybe easier said than done. To get your creative juices flowing sign up for a variety of newsletters to discover what tricks other people use. What copy makes you click and want to discover more?

Tip 05

The Flodesk platform makes it much easier than Mailchimp to build well-crafted email newsletters that match our brand. And you don’t have to be a developer as their building blocks are much easier to use. Also Flodesk has the bonus of being much more cost effective than Mailchimp. As a result of using Flodesk we have had higher newsletter engagement and are confident recommending them. We have an affiliate link offering a 50% discount off a subscription if you’d like to give it a try! Full disclosure if you use this link we earn a commission. Keep in mind we are recommending Flodesk because we think it’s a newsletter game-changer.
