Pollocks Toy Museum and Shop

Pollocks Toy Museum and shop is the oldest toy museum in the UK. Housed in two historic and colorfully painted 18th and 19th century buildings in Fitzrovia, London.

Toy theaters were very popular in 19th century London, inspired by the blossoming theatre industry. The toy theaters were printed from engraved metal plates and then hand-colored and constructed. Children use these miniature toy stages to perform popular plays at home.

The first Pollocks Toy Shop was located in Hoxton in East London. The Hoxton shop was destroyed during WW2, so Pollocks Toy shop opened in Covent Garden and a toy museum was opened to complement the shop. In 1969 a rent increase forced a move to the current location in Fitzrovia.

The toy shop occupies the ground floor of the corner building that fronts onto both Scala and Whitfield Streets. It’s filled with toys reminiscent of a bygone era. There are toy theaters, wooden and tin toys, soft toys and stationery. A treasure trove of nostalgia that will appeal to young and old alike.
