2021 Best New Shops is a salute to the lovely shops that opened in a year that continued to be a challenge for small shops and businesses. Travel restrictions, rolling lockdowns and an increase in online shopping were just some of the obstacles that brick & mortar shops had to overcome.
Menswear shop, Knickerbocker, on Canal Street in New York has a wonderful bookstore with a great assortment of vintage books, as well as a unique mix of goods. The fabulous vintage straw and home goods shop, Straw, opened a lovely new shop on one of our favorite London shopping destination, Columbia Road. One of the most handsome storefronts in the West Village’s Perry Street is home to the Italian specialty food shop Sogno Toscano. The gorgeously unique home goods shop on New York’s UES, Creel & Gow opened an outpost in upstate New York. The popular Matsu, apparel and home-accessories boutique, re-opened a shop in Boston. Lifestyle shop November 19 relocated from midtown west to a larger space on the Lower East Side. The original local shop for timeless, functional products, Labour and Wait opened a second London location in London’s Marylebone. The herbal apothecary Animamundi opened a second location on Soho’s Crosby Street adding to it’s original location in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint. The lovely Howbert & Mays garden shop opened a stunning new home and garden store in a former iconic Dublin bookshop.
