My Year in Shops

My Year in Shops

My year in shops is a review of the past twelve months with The Shopkeepers. The places I went, the shops I discovered and visited. How The Shopkeepers website evolved in 2019, the new features that were added – and a preview of what’s coming in 2020.

In January we announced the winners of our first Best Shops campaign. We had an amazing response to Best Shops 2018 and decided to make it an annual event.

We visited Miami. Highlights were a visit to Plant The Future (can’t wait to visit their new location in 2020!), vintage store, Fly Boutique and Mrs Mandolin, one of 2019 Best Lifestyle shops.

March was a busy month. We visited Edinburgh. Our Favorite Edinburgh Shops was one of our most popular posts of 2019. We featured shops in Istanbul, by our new contributor, Feride Yalav. We like to keep favorite online shops on our radar, too, so we featured our favorites.

We added new destination Berlin with a round-up of our favorite Berlin shops. Stay tuned – we’ll be adding to this list in 2020.

May was a big month. We launched The Shopkeepers Maps. TSK Maps are an interactive way to share and locate our favorite shops by city. We started with New York, London and Paris, and to date have added 14 cities. Throughout 2020 we will be adding new features, new cities and updating current destinations.

In June we introduced our Best Shops by City. Lists to accompany our TSK Maps of the not-to-be-missed shops by city.

I visited Dublin and Bordeaux in July. TSK Maps for both are in the works. See our features on Dublin and Bordeaux from the archives.

I always enjoy August in The Hamptons, Long Island so I visited Sag Harbor, Amagansett, Southampton and East Hampton to share our guide to Best Hamptons Shops. I frequently visit Upstate NY but this was the first time visiting Hort and Pott in Oak Hill, and one of my favorite shops of the year.

I went on a road trip with stops in Richmond, Charleston and Savannah. I loved exploring each city. We added TSK Maps Richmond and shopkeeper Rob Bland of Accoutre contributed a Richmond neighborhood guide.

I lived in Paris for three years and I’m always happy to visit this beautiful city. It had been a while so I loved exploring and discovering how neighborhoods had changed. No trip to Paris is complete without a trip to Marche aux Puces and Paris’s covered passages.

We introduced our “Best Shops For” guides. A series of guides of Best Shops for baskets, jewelry, wreaths, and more which we will continue adding to.

Best Shops 2019. We continue to honor all the wonderful shops and shopkeepers with our annual celebration of best shops. These are the shops that keep our cities, towns, and villages unique and vibrant. The shops that are a treat to discover when we travel, that enhance communities and are a pleasure to visit again and again.

Here’s to 2020!
