Redeem is a men’s and women’s clothing and accessory shop. The store located in Washington DC was designed by Lori Parkerson, the owner, her father and her husband. Established in 2006, the shop has moved to a larger space six doors from it’s original location, and evolved from being mainly menswear. Best known for its minimalist, mono-chrome, and neutral products, and because of their equal ratio of men’s and women’s product, which creates a unique vibe within the city. Redeem has exclusive brands within the DC area, introducing their customers to new innovative labels. Product is sourced and made all over the world, from places like New Zealand, the US, Canada, Britain, Singapore, Korea and Australia.

The Shopkeeper

Redeem was originally conceived as a vintage store when Lori was in middle school to combine her passions for thrifting, antiques and books. Lori gave up a career at a XM Satellite Radio to pursue her dream of opening a shop. Her love for fashion and styling urged her to become a shopkeeper, knowing that she would regret it later in life if she didn’t try. Lori kept the name, Redeem, because it had personal meaning, it suited the aesthetic, and she believed that DC needed some style redemption. Lori is inspired by creatives who present a new or interesting perspective, whether in images, words, or music. Redeem is a gathering place not only for customers, but also for Lori – where she has met many of her close friends.

On the Future of Retail

“I’m not sure what lies in retail’s future, but I hope brick and mortar specialty shops survive/thrive for the sheer interest and life they breathe into the overall experience of the cities in which they exist.”
