Illyne Ganley loves the morning; greeting the day and her neighbors, opening her shop and lighting the candles. She describes Beauty Lounge as her ‘home away from home’ and her customers and neighbors as family. She spent more than fifteen years with Frederic Fekkai and Barney’s, NY, whom she credits as amazing teachers, working in various retail roles. Whilst doing product training for Frederic Fekkai, Illyne discovered she loved the milieu of boutiques, and the first seeds of having her own beauty shop selling hair and skincare products were planted. A self-described spiritual person, she knew when she had found the perfect space that had “good energy” to locate her first shop. Her warmth and energy echo around Beauty Lounge, product displays punctuated by statues of Ganesh and Buddha. When Beauty Lounge first opened, Illyne offered her clients a unique experience by hosting specialist hair and make-up stylists from NYC to take appointments and give tutorials in her shop. She quickly established a loyal customer base and by 2011 Beauty Lounge expanded into the neighboring space and so too did the product assortment, evolving from mainly beauty products to include jewelry, lounge wear, books, furniture and art. She loves the creative process of curating and decorating the shop, stocking products she would only use or wear herself. A fan of antiquing and flea markets she sources cool and interesting products that aren’t readily available elsewhere, finding product lines when she travels or by word of mouth. She loves being her own boss, values the relationships she nurtures with her clients, many of whom have become close friends, and is delighted when she hears that she has been able to help husbands pick the perfect gifts for their wives.
